What the talk is about
Oleh Malamuzh explains how to find an original animation style for a cartoon or a game. He builds on his own "animation matrix": American, French and Japanese schools crossed with three levels of exaggeration, from realistic to cartoon. His main points: the style should match the story and the design of characters and environments; techniques can be mixed, as in the Spider-Man feature where each hero moves by their own rules; and the team must be able to deliver the chosen style, so switching, for example, from classic Disney-like animation to cartoon needs time for retraining and an animation bible. He also stresses guiding the viewer's attention. Useful for animators, directors and game developers who want to stand out from competitors.
