I will talk about how we developed a service for syncing game saves for ATOM RPG across platforms: PC/Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo Switch/Android/iOS, which costs less than $100 per month. I will cover how it was designed, which technologies were used, what problems we faced, and how it was integrated into a Unity game.
What the talk is about
Oleksandr Pindyk describes how a custom cloud save-sync service was built for the Unity game ATOM RPG, covering PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS for under $100 a month. He explains why the team chose its own email-based sign-up over Facebook or Google login: full control and fewer dependencies on third-party SDKs. He walks through the architecture: a C# client, a Python backend, MongoDB for metadata, separate file storage, Redis for tokens, Docker, and bots for backups, monitoring and account management. He also covers the problems met along the way: Nintendo Switch quirks, email delivery, choosing a server location, save conflicts and backward compatibility between versions. Useful for indie developers who need an affordable cross-platform save service.
