What the talk is about

Oleh Petrovsky, a game development project manager now serving in Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, compares the challenges of the two worlds and shows how strikingly similar they are: a lack of money and specialists, vague tasks and staff turnover. In the first part he explains what someone from game development will need in the army: fast learning, communication, self-discipline and practical skills such as driving, electronics, networking, 3D printing and paperwork. He gives examples of colleagues who found their place in new roles and advises choosing a unit and position deliberately. In the second part he explains what veterans bring to companies, autonomy, motivation, discipline and the ability to organise teams and plan, and what they expect from employers: respect, fair pay and no prejudice about concussions or PTSD. Useful for game developers and employers.
