Stefan Basista is an M&A and IP specialist and founding partner of SPATE legal, a Bratislava-based law firm focused on M&A, IP, employment and corporate law. He has more than 10 years of experience in top-tier business consulting: he worked at a so-called Magic Circle law firm and at one of the Big Four companies, and later led the transactions department of one of the largest Slovak law firms. He has handled local and global M&A and IP transactions, due diligence, and corporate and employment projects. His experience has taught him two simple ideas that have proven true many times: M&A is about business and economics, with the law serving only as a structure that supports the desired outcome; and the ability to prove ownership of IP is crucial to a successful deal.
