During this talk, I will explain how we ported The Sinking City, a game created for PS4 and X1, to Nintendo Switch.

What the talk is about

Costantin Yakushenko from Frogwares describes how the studio ported The Sinking City from PS4 and Xbox One to Nintendo Switch in about four months. The first Unreal Engine build ran within days, but at around 15 fps and with crashes from lack of memory. The team then cut character polygon counts by reworking only the most-used modular parts and the heads, and dropped cloth simulation. For the city, they simplified static geometry, removed redundant collision primitives, shrank level sizes and streamed smaller chunks more often. He also covers rendering tweaks (shadows, anti-aliasing, reflections), moving to a newer engine version, navmesh settings and enabling clustered garbage collection. Useful for developers squeezing a large game onto weaker portable hardware.
