What the talk is about
Ivana Ancic explains how music for games is conceived, composed and integrated. She starts with the roles of music: setting time and place, introducing characters, signalling state changes, building tension and connecting the player emotionally. She then contrasts interactive with linear media, shows why repetition kills suspense, and covers ways to fight it: randomized loops, vertical layering, horizontal resequencing (crossfading, branching, transitional cues) and stingers. Using the game Sun Warriors, she walks through an audio style guide, foreground/middle-ground/background layering, and how vertical layers and transitions are set up in Wwise. Her closing advice is not to overcrowd a score, because less is more. Useful for composers, sound designers and teams integrating music into games.
