What the talk is about

Maksym Bondaryk explains how his team concepted three tanks for the Big Races racing event in World of Tanks (Wargaming). By the lore, the vehicles had to look as if robots had built them in garages in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Each tank got a unique characteristic, a visible engine, a powerful exhaust system and heavy rear armor, so players understand why shooting there is pointless. Using the Leopard, T-50 and Chaffee as examples, he shows how the team chose the base model, engine and extra modules, then moved from concept to final geometry, normal maps, textures and effects. He closes with the production difficulties: scarce references, fitting engines into hulls and keeping the exhaust visible. Useful for 3D and concept artists who need to design stylized vehicles based on existing models.
