Old-school games, shaped by technical constraints, developed a unique visual and narrative language. This talk explores how retro aesthetics—pixel art, low-poly 3D, and 16-bit music—offer a powerful framework for conveying deep themes like faith, loss, power struggles, and legacy. By embracing nostalgic design while balancing modern expectations, I’ll show how retro-inspired games can evoke emotional depth, using lessons from classic RPGs, my own game design experience, and 90s-era studios.
