Do we need indie accelerators?
Kristina Beherska
What the talk is about
Kristina Beherska explains why indie teams might need an accelerator and how the Game Founders program in Malaysia works. She argues it offers more than money: a 12-week program with lectures and one-on-one sessions with industry mentors, a network of investor and publisher partners, playtests with dozens of real players, and weekly pitch practice that ends in a demo day in front of investors. The accelerator takes an equity stake in the company, because it looks for teams that will keep working rather than a single product. In the Q&A she describes selection criteria: a team of two or more that already works together and wants to build a business, ideally with launch experience, working English and a playable prototype. Platform or genre does not limit selection. Useful for indie teams considering an accelerator or looking for a publisher or investor.
