What the talk is about
Marta Dettlaff argues that a concept artist's flexibility is not about mastering every tool or technique, but about knowing the elements of art and the principles of design. She says the pressure to learn everything, and constant comparison with masters on social media, kills creativity. Principles work in any medium, never get old and serve as a shared visual language. Using examples from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, she shows how they apply when working with writers and art directors (quick sketches), level designers (layouts, overpaints) and character and environment teams (silhouette and essence before detail, variety through color, texture and proportion). Useful for concept artists, especially juniors.
