Technologies we use at King
Oleh Prydiuk
What the talk is about
Oleh Prydiuk explains how teams and technology are organized at King for making mobile free-to-play games. The main ideas: small creative teams prototype games and show them to peers sideways rather than up the chain, so weak ideas die as early as possible; games are designed from the start for the top charts, with frequent content updates, low-end devices, and new markets and platforms in mind; operations features (regional pricing, offers, progress sync) live in a separate SDK built by other teams. He explains why the company moved from several incompatible in-house engines to a single engine, Defold, which is also open to outside developers, and why Unity suits prototyping but did not meet performance requirements. He also stresses polish and happy teams. Useful for producers, tech leads, and indie teams.
