What the talk is about
Oleh Riazanov shares lessons from four years of making licensed children's farm games and advises how to avoid creating problems in casual mobile farms. His main point is not to split the core town into several locations: loading screens, a more complex story, doubled push notifications and quests tire casual players, and on weaker Android devices transitions also cause crashes. He then recommends keeping the game alive (animated characters instead of static buildings, clickable menus placed on the map), running regular themed time-limited events built on existing gameplay, making the first minutes pleasant, and adding small memorable features. He also suggests encouraging players to add friends inside the game and letting them show off their towns. Useful for casual mobile developers and small studios.
