What the talk is about

Igor Pogrebelny and Sergey Rudavin explain how they use photogrammetry in game production. They start with the principle: software finds shared points across many photos, builds a point cloud and then a mesh, with Reality Capture being their preferred tool. They cover which objects scan well (matte, richly textured) and which do not (glossy, uniform, glass), and how matte paint, cross-polarization and a powerful flash help. They also share their field kit: tripod, drone, RAW processing, cloudy-weather planning, plus stories from shoots. Finally they show how to build a character from scans of real clothing: references, a 3D-printed mannequin, concept art, dyeing and distressing the garments, then scanning. By their account, this pipeline speeds up character creation by 3–4 times. Useful for 3D, environment and character artists.
