Strike a key pose

What the talk is about
Delphine Zombo explains why animators should strike strong key poses instead of relying on motion capture alone. This matters most in cinematics, where viewers are "dreaming" rather than feeling the motion from inside, so a pose can be more beautiful than reality. She gives three reasons: clarity (in a fast, busy scene the viewer must catch a readable frame), beauty of the image, and high impact, since a strong pose often becomes the image used to promote a project. Her examples come from her own shots where mocap did not read on camera and the scene had to be rebuilt with keyframes. In the Q&A she advises collecting references from many sources, studying body language and micro-expressions, respecting cultural differences, and practicing a lot. Useful for animators, especially beginners.
