What the talk is about
Oleksandr Pindyk explains what game AI is and what an AI developer does, using World of Tanks as the example. He shows where bots are needed: PvP for newcomers and for filling low-population regions, PvE events, and as a tool for level design, balancing and QA. He then walks through the sense–think–act loop and decision approaches, from decision trees and state machines to Behavior Trees and goal-oriented behavior. Using a Halloween event with exploding bots, he shows how a programmer, a game designer and QA iterate together to ship a feature. He closes with the skills needed: scripting languages, C++, data structures, algorithms, basic math, English, and above all teamwork. Useful for programmers and designers who want to get into game AI.
