Themed events as a way to increase revenue in F2P
Stanislav Stefaniak
What the talk is about
Stanislav Stefaniak explains how themed events tied to holidays can raise revenue in free-to-play games. In his view, the first goal is to create a sense of celebration for the player, then bring players back, and only then earn money. An event of about two weeks creates a revenue spike thanks to limited time, sales, event currency, unique cosmetics and avatars, timers and collectible rewards. He advises tying the visuals to what really exists in the game, adding at least a small new mechanic, and not breaking the core gameplay. He also covers marketing: announcements, contests, mailings and winning back paying players near the end of an event. He stresses planning: put events into the production plan early, calculate the economy and never miss the holiday deadline. Useful for game designers, producers and marketers of F2P projects.
