What the talk is about

Oleg Pridiuk builds a platformer from scratch in the Defold engine, live and without slides, showing the workflow along the way. He starts by creating a project in the web dashboard with a private Git repository where artists and designers can be added. Then he imports images, makes a tile source and tilemap for the level, adds a player with flipbook animation, physics, colliders, and collision groups and masks. Ready-made libraries are pulled in as dependencies (a platformer module, an orthographic camera), and cross-platform input is configured. He also shows hot reload on a device without rebuilding, a reload hook for testing any point of a level quickly, a build size report, and builds for HTML5 and Android. Useful for developers and game designers choosing an engine for fast prototypes and mobile or web games.
