What the talk is about

Pavel Dorokhovsky argues that VR is not dying, despite how often it is declared dead. In his view the main problem is not hardware but a shortage of quality content: indies lack the resources for big projects, while large studios are slow to move into VR. Many mechanics from flat games don't work in VR, and developers struggle to retrain. He compares VR to the switch from ball mice to laser mice: once quality content and a comfortable headset arrive, going back to a monitor won't be an option. He bets on standalone headsets such as Oculus Quest with stylized graphics, and praises the Samsung Odyssey screen. He also shares that for over six months he has done most character modeling in VR tools, saving a lot of time. The Q&A covers motion sickness, locomotion and favorite VR games. Useful for developers and 3D artists weighing up VR.
