What the talk is about
Pieter van der Pijl of Triple Dragon explains what user acquisition finance is and who it suits. He reviews the funding sources open to game studios: equity, bank and specialist loans, project financing, crowdfunding, grants and tax credits. In his view banks do not understand the games business, whereas a specialist lender reads a game's metrics and takes security over receivables from stores and ad networks. The product is a flexible credit facility of roughly 100 to 500 thousand dollars that can be drawn in parts, with fixed monthly interest and no equity given away. It requires reliable analytics, dashboard access for the lender and in-house UA expertise. He advises optimizing monetization and ad networks, and selling older games that no longer get attention. Useful for studios with a game that has proven metrics and want to scale marketing without raising equity.
