In this lecture, we will talk about working with a backlog and prioritizing tasks at different stages of a project. This lecture is based on my Game Producer course. It will be useful – come join us.
What the talk is about
Alexander Shtachenko shows how to turn a backlog from a pile of ideas into a working tool. A backlog is a prioritized list that lets the team see what is done, when and why, and lets a product person plan far ahead. His main point is that the business value of tasks is not fixed and gets rewritten at every project stage: benchmarking, pre-production, production, soft launch (engagement, then retention, monetization, virality), global launch, scaling and live operations. Instead of high/low priorities he sets value with Fibonacci-based numbers in thousands, from 1000 for discarded ideas up to critical tasks, and rates complexity separately, also with Fibonacci. Sprints take the most valuable work that fits; tasks of complexity 8 and above are broken down or researched first. The team and project manager estimate complexity. Useful for producers and product managers.
