What the talk is about
Yaraslau Kot talks about games for blind and visually impaired players as a distinct, low-competition and underserved market. He first cites estimates of how many people have vision impairments in Europe and worldwide. He then describes a project from almost ten years ago: games and a theater club for blind children, where they and sighted peers practiced conveying emotions through facial expression. As side effects, the children listened and touched more and felt like leaders. He then reviews games that work well for blind players, including Blind Legend, Mario 64, Far Cry New Dawn, Shades of Doom, Mortal Kombat 11 and The Last of Us Part II. He closes with accessibility tips: text-to-speech, audio cues, aim assist, skippable cutscenes, contrast settings and adjustable difficulty. Useful for game designers and developers who want to make games more inclusive.
